This is rather embarassing. Normally this doesn't happen to me - I'm usually the one explaining obscure military terminology (after all, I'm a history teacher with a focus on military history), but could someone (ahem... Big Brother?) tell me why the 23rd Infantry Division should be so important? For some reason, on this website, there was an advertisement for 23rd Infantry merchandise and other military memorabilia. Why that would be an eye-catcher is quite beyond me - it was right next to Civil War memorabilia so maybe that's a clue. My guess is that this is a Vietnam-era unit, a war I'm ashamed to admit has never really peaked my interest, beyond reading "A Bright Shining Lie." (Great book, BTW.) This is also the same reason I refuse to watch "We Were Soldiers." The ads were so chock-full of American "Hoo-Ah" that I was completely turned off. Strangely enough, that's why I avoided watching the movie "Black Hawk Down" for about a year. (Great book, BTW.) Okay, I've rambled on enough - back to studying Hebrew. (Great book, BTW.)

Not a clue. Of course, my own knowledge of military history is heavily slanted towards naval and air warfare. I could tell you why "Task Force 38" or "Taffy 3" memorabilia would be popular, or why someone would want unit patches from the 8th air force or VMF-214, but when it comes to ground units, my knowledge is severely limited.
Now, where did I put my hat from the 388th Bombardment Group?
