Hello all. Well, I say "All", but half the people registered already as of this writing have either met me in person, or are currently in the next room trying to repair a broken silverware drawer.
My name: Martin. Obviously, I have a last name, but at the request of my sister (who is apparently worried about some guy with a Hermione fixation showing up on our doorstep some morning carrying a chainsaw and wearing nothing but a pair of lederhosen and a smile), I'm not releasing my last name or true location at this time.
My Handle: At the moment, I'm going by "Big Brother". I am, of course, the older brother of Lolua, the owner of this board. She's consented to make me a Moderator (I've got experience as a mod on two other similar boards), and since Power Corrupts, and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely, Mod Powers must Corrupt Moderately. So I've taken a handle which embraces this despotic tendency. Remember, Big Brother is Watching, so outside of the usual Ten Minutes of Mandatory Hate each evening, I don't want to see any flaming!
My Interests: I read a lot of Science Fiction, scientific and historical non-ficton, alternate history, and historical fiction. I watch a lot of TV sci-fi and educational programming. I'm a big fan of B5, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, and the usual other SF geek candy. I'm a proud Trekkie (the term "Trekker" is an abomination) and an avid PC and tabletop wargamer. I even dabble in RPG's, especially ones with a sci-fi bent.
My Dislikes: "High Fantasy" (LOTR, WoT, and such crap with lots of magic). I like the Science in my Science Fiction to be realistic, so stuff with wands waving and flying dragons makes me giggle rather than pay attention. Anything involving the supernatural or mystical in general ticks me off, and I have a hard time taking it seriously. This includes real-world religions, which is why I am a proud Atheist. So why is an ardent anti-magic freak like myself hanging around a HP fanfic board? Because, although the magic system in the HP universe leaves much to be desired, the characters and story are good enough that I can forget about how annoying the wand-waving is and just concentrate on Hermio....er, on the plot and character development. Yeah. That's it. The plot and character development.

I write a little sci-fi now and then, play a lot of conquer-the-world computer games, and hang out online at a couple of webforums not unlike this one, but focused on conquer-the-world computer games or sci-fi TV shows.
Why I'm Here: My sister has successfully managed to suck me into the dark netherworld of fanfic writing. A lifetime as a Trekkie, and I never once wrote a fanfic. But I have indeed begun work on my own HP fanfic....and yes, it centers on Snape. Shudder in fear...
