Snape is one of the most interesting and complex HP characters, so I thought he deserved his own general thread. We can also try to pick his brain about stuff since he can be found lurking around the forum. I found a new online toy -- an online etymological dictionary. (If there were any doubt that I belong in Ravenclaw, that fact would put it to rest.) One of the things I started searching for, of course, was Harry Potter names, in which endeavor I discovered this: www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=snape Also, Forthright's Phrontistery (another favorite online toy), a dictionary of archaic, obscure, and otherwise rare words, has an entry for what might be an alternate spelling or related word: phrontistery.50megs.com/s.html Special thanks to Mlle for sending me to that entry on the Phrontistery ages ago. However, Jo Rowling herself said that "Snape" was an English village... so maybe these are possible roots for the name of the town. But still... fitting, aren't they? ;D
