Snape is one of the most interesting and complex HP characters, so I thought he deserved his own general thread. We can also try to pick his brain about stuff since he can be found lurking around the forum. 
I found a new online toy -- an online etymological dictionary. (If there were any doubt that I belong in Ravenclaw, that fact would put it to rest.) One of the things I started searching for, of course, was Harry Potter names, in which endeavor I discovered this:

Also, Forthright's Phrontistery (another favorite online toy), a dictionary of archaic, obscure, and otherwise rare words, has an entry for what might be an alternate spelling or related word:

However, Jo Rowling herself said that "Snape" was an English village... so maybe these are possible roots for the name of the town. But still... fitting, aren't they? ;D
