I just added Percy's birthday to this calendar. I'd join Jo in wishing him a happy one, but.... well, Percy's been a Class A dunderhead as of late.
So I'll just acknowledge the day here and hope he doesn't send back whatever his mum tries to give him as a present.

Happy Birthday to Professor McGonagall! I hope someone (other than Hagrid) bakes her a nice cake to celebrate the day.
It figures that she'd be a Libra, though.
And from OoCF's own Mlle Bienvenu comes this lovely hypothetical conversation in honor of McG's birthday:
Dumbledore: And what did you get Professor McGonagall for her birthday, Severus?
Snape: I ....ah....umm..... *looks around dungeon*
Dumbledore: *quirks eyebrow*
Snape: Yes...I got her this nice....um..... bell jar! Yes! To put her.....um.... gryffindor....things....in......um...
Dumbledore: I see.... You got her lab equipment....
Snape: Well... I figured..... she could tranfigure it into anything....if she doesn't like it...you know.... Like....a lovely...umm...flower-holding jar thing.....
Dumbledore: A vase?

Happy birthday to Professor Filius Flitwick, Head of Ravenclaw House and Charms instructor at Hogwarts! *shamelessly sucks up to Head of House* Would you like a piece of ice cream pie with a candle in it, Professor? ;D Anyway, Jo's official birthday announcement also means that we have confirmation, outside of the Famous Wizard Cards, that Flitwick's first name is indeed Filius.  *crosses fingers that Sirius' birthday is soon, and that we get told about it, because it would make everything so much easier* |

Happy Birthday to Molly Prewett Weasley! I hope her kids and husband give her a break from the housework and all the strain of managing the Weasley brood. As my mother will tell you, five minutes' peace and quiet is a hundred times better than any store-bought present. |

Happy Birthday, Bill Weasley! Jo announced his birthday on her website in the usual fashion, and I added it to the list above. I'm sure Fleur will find an, erm, appropriate birthday present to give him. French lessons, perhaps?  I also realized that I had neglected to put Dudley Dursley's birthday in this calendar. So he's there now. Due to the discrepancy between the days of the week during SS/PS as written in chapters two and threeand the real-time calendar for 1991, the Lexicon lists two possible birthdates for him, on the 22nd and 23rd of June. Of course, the whole thing is an estimate in the first place, counting backwards from Dudley's "month-old" camera, so I'm not going to worry too much about it. I have a stupid question.... Why would JKR bother figuring out everyone's birthday? Harry's I can see, because it's important to the plot.... but It seems a bit odd to think up everyone's birthday... Do you think she's doing it after the fact? or do you think she's got something planned that has to do with birthdays? or do you think she thought up their personalities based on their date of birth? or ...what?

I dunno, sometimes it's just fun to assign birthdays. Before JKR started posting their birthdates on her webpage, I had given several of the canon characters birthdays myself. Ginny's was at the end of May, and Luna's was in January or December, I can't remember. Granted, I did at one time have plans to do something in a fic with their birthdays (involving heirlooms), but once I'd given them their birthdays, I kept looking around for unrelated birthdays. And I gave Remus and Sirius and even Peter birthdays during my quest to give Snape one, which I eventually did. |
