Rita Skeeter casting

It was reported back in April that Rosamund Pike, of the James Bond film Die Another Day, had been cast as Rita Skeeter for the GoF film. It hasn't been verified through a Warner Bros. press release or from CBBC Newsround, but I thought I'd start a thread going on an actress y'all might actually have seen or heard of.

The main source of this rumor, on an unofficial Rosamund Pike fan site, can be found at 217.96.225.73/ros/acting.html. The maker of the site has tried to contact Rosamund Pike's agent, PFD, but has received no reply. She's quoted from a British magazine as saying "It's a dream to be in a Harry Potter movie, and working with Mike Newell is such a honor, I admire him a lot."

In addition to her Bond-girl role in Die Another Day, she will be playing Jane Bennet in (yet another) BBC Pride & Prejudice adaptation, due out in 2005, and appeared in the 1999 Wives and Daughters which I remember seeing on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre at some point.

Rosamund Pike is rather young, only 25. They'd probably have to age her up for everything other than the Pensieve scenes.

So much for the Rosamund Pike rumor. A Warner Bros. press release verified the rumor that actress Miranda Richardson would be playing the nasty journalist Rita Skeeter.

She's around the right age. Rita's supposed to be 43 in Goblet of Fire, and Miranda Richardson is 46. And at least she's blondish.

I do wonder, though, what happened with the Rosamund Pike thing.

When Pike was interviewed by FTV recently (a fashion channel), she stated that she was offered the role as Rita Skeeter, but turned it down when she found out that her scenes in the movie would be minimal and that her contract would require her to be in the fifth movie as well.
"I just regret not doing the movie because I love Mike (Newell) and I owe him a favor; I don't know who replaced me, but I wish her the best luck!" says Pike.
