OK, so I'm at the local Border's Bookstore to do an interview with a Georgetown alum. After I'm done I look around because I need to find the author of a book I've been wanting ( Commanding Heights by Daniel Yergin). Well, after I've found it, I ask my cousin if she has a piece of paper I can write that down on. She hands me a scrap of paper, and I write it down. And I don't think of it for a while. Well, after I get home, I unfold the thing out of curiosity to see what it is. Turns out it's a handout flyer: www.geocities.com/lorpius_prime/gmgposter.htmlRight, so is this a real group, and I've just never heard of it? I thought it was made up in TI...

Oh, that is VERY cool... now we just need to find "Volkskrieg Overdrive" and I'll start believing in Heinlein's "World as Myth" theory that Martin occasionally exposes.

A quick google search turned up (in addition to a crapload of file cabinets, PC boxen, guitars, and so forth in "gun metal grey" color schemes) several leads on bands by that name, including one from Australia that specializes in "Industrial Ambient" music. Whatever that means, I hope it isn't the background hum of machine tools.
No such luck with Volkskrieg Overdrive, however. Now, I'm off to check that no one is already using "The Random Lockharts", which is the name for the filk band Lolua and I plan to start some day as soon as I catch up to her in musical ability.
